Abdulaziz Al-Kaabi has more than 30 years of combined industry and academia experience. In May 2015 he was appointed as the founding Dean of College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). Abdulaziz was Chief Technologist of Reservoir Engineering Technology at Saudi Aramco Advanced Research Center in Dhahran for thirteen years. Between 1985 and 2002, Abdulaziz was faculty member of the Petroleum Engineering Department and Director of Center for Petroleum & Minerals at KFUPM Research Institute. Christina Elson is the Managing Director of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. She has a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and is a graduate of the Executive MBA program at the Smith School of Business. Christina’s research has focused on the creation and dissolution of shared cultural identities and on factors that create limits to bureaucratic and human organization. Her professional career has focused on building and managing teams to create realistic, executable strategies to successfully launch new ventures. Christina joined the Ed Snider Center soon after its establishment in 2014 to create its strategy, direct its operations, and manage its growth. Previously, Christina was a member of the curatorial staff of the American Museum of Natural History in New York where she managed grant-funded research and education initiatives focused on Latin America. She also has worked for the National Geographic Society where she focused on developing, tracking, and executing international research partnerships. In 2010, she co-founded Science Visualization, a media company that works with national and international clients to create high-quality, integrated print media, graphics, animation, video, and exhibitions. Craig Smith is Chief Executive Officer of Dhahran Valley Technology Development Company overseeing all aspects of the Dhahran Techno Valley Science Park, from intellectual property and entrepreneurship development to joint ventures between multinational companies and Saudi academia. Previously, Craig led Business Development for Emerging Technologies at the US Department of Energy’s Sandia Labs, specializing in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Research, Cyber Security and Information and Communications Technologies. Detlef Hallermann is an Associate Clinical Professor and Director for the Reliant Energy Trade Center at Texas A&M University. Dr. Hallermann has created and directs the Trading, Risk & Investments Program (TRIP) for Texas A&M University. TRIP is a integrated BBA/MS Finance program that collaborates with industry in which students participate in multiple markets and investments related internships as part of a B.B.A. / M.S. Finance degree program. As part of his TRIP responsibilities, Dr. Hallermann manages a thirty (30) plus company advisory board. In addition, Professor Hallermann has been an Adjunct Professor for Rice University involved in their Continuing Education Programs. Dr. Hallermann has created programs related to almost all aspects of front-front and mid-office responsibilities for energy trading. Dr. Hallermann has held faculty positions at the University of Denver and the Colorado School of Mines. Dr. Hallermann has created trading and risk management courses for numerous private entities regarding energy trading including Duke Energy, Nord Bank (Germany) and the Algerian government. Dr. Hallermann sits on the Market Technician Association Education Foundation Board. He is a Financial Management Association (FMA) and Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) member. He authored the first draft of the GARP Energy Risk Management (ERM) Certificate coursework. Detlef Hallermann has over ten years of practical experience in the energy industry. He is well versed in oil and gas acquisitions as a petroleum engineer and MBA. Dr. Hallermann has focused the past fifteen years on derivatives, contingent claims analysis, trading and risk management and market behavior in the commodities sector. As part of his doctoral work, Dr. Hallermann created an options based model for valuing political/expropriation risk in the mining sector. Prior to joining Texas A&M University, Dr. Hallermann performed product development for an energy trading and risk management (ETRM) software company and managed the Quantitative Group at Reliant Energy. While managing the quantitative group, Dr. Hallermann developed models for pricing credit risk, full-requirements and long-term electricity and natural gas contracts. He also advised the risk management group regarding value-at-risk (VaR) and strategic VaR allocation. Joseph F. Pekny is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University and Interim Director of the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship. Professor Pekny was a founding Director of Discovery Park and the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering. He leads the Cancer Care Engineering Project with Marietta Harrison and Pat Loehrer of IU School of Medicine, is developing a project to evolve a Deliberate Innovation System at Purdue University by coalescing the many entrepreneurial subsystems on campus, and is the Principal Investigator on a National Institute of Health project to improve the manufacturing of biologics processes. He founded and advises Advanced Process Combinatorics, Inc. – a Purdue Research Park company. His research interests are in algorithm engineering for combinatorial optimization applications and in devising the best possible system for translating research into practical impact. His work includes applications in energy systems modeling, research pipeline management, manufacturing, and planning and scheduling. Professor Pekny served as the Head of Purdue’s School of Industrial Engineering from 2008-2010. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and his Ph. Julie Goonewardene converts the promise of innovation into results. As an entrepreneur, she started, led and negotiated successful exits for companies that used technology to dramatically improve companies’ cost structures. As an executive at research institutions, she envisions and executes strategies that transform nascent discoveries into products, partnerships and start-ups, often with life-changing outcomes. Julie experienced such an outcome when her daughters’ lives were saved by innovations in healthcare. The experience prompted Julie to immerse herself in the life sciences. In 2005, she returned to Purdue to create the University’s first venture fund and to help faculty inventors turn their research projects into promising commercial enterprises. Julie then went on to remake the corporate partnership and commercialization capabilities at the University of Kansas and University of Kanas Medical Center, adding a philanthropic investment fund and installing a team that dramatically improved results on all metrics. Julie currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Strategic Investment at the University of Texas System. The University of Texas System is one of the nation’s largest and most respected systems of higher education. It encompasses 14 institutions that educate 221,000 students and employ 20,000 faculty and more than 80,000 health care professionals, researchers and staff. Julie is responsible for a $50M venture fund, oversees entrepreneurial programs, creates partnerships between UT System institutions and industry, and brings resources to assist companies and start-ups involving university assets. Her board experience includes American Medical Association (public member), Diaceutics (Chairwoman), and the Personalized Medicine Coalition. Additionally, she is an advisor to the United States Secretary of Commerce as a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE). She is also a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy. Julie is an active speaker on the topics of entrepreneurship and innovation. Majid Mufti currently leads Saudi Aramco’s Corporate Venture Capital Program through its wholly owned subsidiary, Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV), which he initially established in 2012. Prior to his recent appointment, Mr. Mufti lead Saudi Aramco’s Upstream Transactions group, overseeing investments and joint venture developments with mid to large-cap multinationals in the oil field services sector. Between 2005 and 2010 he was based in Hong Kong in the role of a Joint Venture Manager overseeing Saudi Aramco’s portfolio of investments in China and the Philippines. Part of his career started off as a finished products trader and as a Process Engineer in SASREF (Saudi Aramco/Shell Refinery), before spending time with Saudi Aramco’s Strategic Planning group developing strategies and running scenario planning 25-years out. Dr. Sanders recently joined the Austin Technology Incubator (ATI) as the Assistant Director for both the Clean Energy and Water Incubators. In this role, he mentors and advises portfolio companies, facilitates academic entrepreneurship programs, organizes the regional coalition of clean energy incubators, and works globally to cultivate relationships and foster a network of clean energy and water technology advocates. Dr. Sanders has worked for several clean energy nonprofit organizations over the past seven years. Prior to joining ATI, Mark was the executive director at the Rosenfeld Society for Sustainable Energy, South-central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource (SPEER), and the Texas Renewable Energy Industry Alliance (TREIA). He came to the nonprofit sector from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory where he worked to commercialize new innovations developed at U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories. Before his time with Berkeley Laboratory, Mark was the founder of a company that employed novel environmental technologies and methods; the company was subsequently acquired by a national firm. At Saudi Petrochemical Company (SADAF) which is join venture between SABIC and SHELL, Salah led the transformation project of competencies, learning intervention directed to all employee with direct impact on people retention and career development. At Jubail Industrial College, Salah was the founder of the Bachelor program of Chemical engineering technology customized to SABIC. Furthermore Salah developed and helped in designing over 45 learning interventions directed to SABIC business needs. Growing up in UK, Salah has number of key engineering positions at BP, Unilever and GlaxoSmithKline at UK. Salah was the recipient of second best research project funded by the Engineering and physical research council EPSRC. Wail A. Mousa currently serves as the Dean, Entrepreneurship Institute, and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). His charge is to create a premier national model for Entrepreneurship education and business incubators in the region. Dr. Mousa served during 2012-2014 as the Director, Center for Business Incubators, KFUPM. He then became the Assistant Dean, Entrepreneurship Institute before named the Founding Dean of the Institute in August 2016. Dr. Mousa received two B.Sc. degrees (with honors) in electrical engineering and mathematical sciences and an M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from KFUPM. Mousa’s Ph.D. is in electronics and electrical engineering from the University of Leeds, U.K. Mousa was the first Saudi to be sponsored by the Schlumberger Dhahran Carbonate Research (located in Dhahran Techno-Valley), for a Ph.D. His research interests include digital signal processing and its application in geophysics, with particular emphasis on Seismic Data Processing. Mousa has more than 35 publications and conference proceedings, two registered patent, a few pending patents, two published books and two contracted text-books with Cambridge University Press and John Wiley & Sons. Dr. Mousa is a member of many international and local professional organizations. In late 2006, he represented Saudi Arabia in the inaugural World Petroleum Council-Youth Committee (WPC-YC) and served as Chair of the WPC-YC for three years. He is also the assistant coordinator for the Academic Leadership Center, Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Mousa has received many awards, including a letter of distinction from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Schlumberger in 2008 for his technical contributions to the company. In summer 2013, he attended both the Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators as well as Harvard University’s Management Development Program. More recently, Dr. Mousa served as a panel judge in the 28th and 29th Annual Burton D. Morgan Business Plan Competition, Purdue University, USA. The Burton D. Wassim Basrawi is currently the Managing Director of Saudi Aramco Entrepreneurship Center “WAED” Prior to his currently role, he served as the Chief Investment Officer for WAED Ventures for over 2 years. Before his stint with WAED, Wassim was the Head of the Joint Venture Portfolio where he oversaw Saudi Aramco’s investments in 8 companies with over $25 billion dollars’ worth of capital projects. Wassim began with Saudi Aramco in August 1995 on the College Degree program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder in May 1999. His first professional assignment was a short stint with the Drilling and Workover Organization as a drilling engineer. He then spent a couple of years as a plant engineer with Qurrayah Sea Water Injection Plant. After completing his professional development program in 2002 he spent nearly two years as a corrosion engineer with Consulting Services Department and RT Refinery Inspection Unit. He joined Domestic Joint Ventures in early 2004 and has had several work assignments which included a 15 month assignment at Petrolube in Jeddah, JV manager of Petrolube and Samref, and champion of company’s corporate governance best practices initiative. He then returned to the Operations for two years from 2009-2011 where he held the position as operations foreman RT Refinery. He then returned to Domestic Joint Ventures in 2011 where he spent two years as a the Senior JV manager of the west coast refineries- Yasref, Samref, and Luberef before his promotion to Head of the Domestic Refining Portfolio in mid-2013. In addition to his diverse Saudi Aramco experience, Wassim is an entrepreneur and has established a restaurant business in 2009. It has grown to several locations with over 90 full time employees.
